Department for Architecture and Media Technology and The Utzon Center in Aalborg are pleased to invite you all to the first lecture in the international lecture series this fall. The international guest and lecturer is the New York based architect Michael Sheridan. Sheridan is an international expert in Danish Architecture and Design. His publications includes Room 606 – The SAS House and The Work of Arne Jacobsen (Phaidon, 2003), Poul Kjærholm – Møbelarkitekt (Louisiana, 2006) and The Furniture of Poul Kjærholm: Catalogue Raisonné (Miller and Co., 2008). In 2006 Michael Sheridan curated and designed the 2006 Poul Kjærholm retrospective at Louisiana
Over the past five years, Michael Sheridan has been developing a book on Danish single-family houses from the 1950s which will be the outset for his lecture. At the core of the book are 14 extraordinary houses. Each house will be examined in a chapter of 14-20 pages, and the photographs will be accompanied by new line drawings and descriptive texts. The 14 chapters are preceded by an essay that traces the development of the modern house in Denmark. The book is entitled Mesterværker – enfamiliehuset i dansk arkitekturs guldalder, and it will be published on October 11th , 2011 by the Strandberg Publishing in Copenhagen.
